A timesheet is a document used to log the number of hours an employee works, and can include start and end-times, lunch breaks, overtime and leave. A timesheet template is necessary to keep track of hours, manage projects, send invoices and also to comply with labor laws and best practice.
A timesheet is important for many reasons, including:
1. Invoicing
Timesheets show how much time has been spent on projects, and lets you invoice clients accurately and transparently.
2. Payroll
Timesheets also ensure fair compensations for employees, and they’re essential for the payroll process. They also simplify your job, as the template will let you know the total hours worked based on what you or your employee enter.
3. Track productivity
Timesheets let you see what your company spends time on. This can help ensure that you spend time on work and projects that provide value for your company. If this isn’t the case, it might be a good idea to reassess your company’s strategy.
Timesheets also show you where there is room for improvement; maybe you need to provide additional training to employees or allocate responsibilities differently.
Add the week ending date to specify which week it is for.
Add the name of the employee and the manager, they will both sign the timesheet.
Add the hours worked. In the first column, you can specify the project, the job they were doing, the shift type or anything else you need to add in order to differentiate the work done.
Add the time the employee clocked in and clocked out, both for the morning and afternoon.
If the employee worked overtime during the week, you can add this the time they clocked in and out in the overtime columns.
Finally, if the employee took any leave, you add the amount of hours to the last column. You can also specify what type of leave it was: sick leave, family leave, vacation or something else.
At the bottom of the timesheet template you will see the total amount of hours worked, the total amount of overtime and the total amount of leave.
Both the employee and the manager should sign the timesheet to validate it.
Timesheet format and timesheet layout can vary a lot. A timesheet can display the hours worked across a month, a week or a day. It can include sick leave, vacation, overtime, lunch breaks and more. The important thing is that your timesheet includes the things that are important to your business.
Our timesheet layout includes hours worked across the week. It also includes a column for specifying the type of work the employee has done. Overtime can be added in the overtime columns. The employee can add the amount of leave they took as well, and specify the type of leave.
At the end, you will be able to see the total amount of hours worked, the total amount of overtime and the total amount of leave. This will help you with invoicing, payroll, and productivity analysis.
