Time registration means registering the hours you work, in for example a time registration program. Not all professions use time registration, but it is common in professions that record working hours and overtime, or that invoice for the hours they work.
Craftsmen, lawyers, cleaning personnel, graphic designers and consultants are typical professions where time registration is common.

Why should you keep track of your hours?
Time registration for invoicing
For professions that work on an hourly basis, the registered hours are documentation of how much you have worked and what you should charge for. It is important to keep track of your hours so that you can differentiate between internal hours and hours you can invoice for.
Time registration for projects
Many companies also use time registration to see how much time they spend on different projects or tasks within the company. This way, you can see if you prioritize your time correctly and find out the actual time spent on different tasks.
Time registration for overtime
In companies where overtime is worked in periods, it is also useful to register hours. Then you have documentation of why the employees have worked overtime and how much overtime they have worked.
Cloud-based time registration
You can manually keep track of your hours on a sheet of paper or on post-it notes in your office, but it is becoming more and more common to register hours in a web-based, digital time registration program.
There are many advantages to registering hours digitally. For example, you can register hours wherever you are, and it is easy for both the employer and the employee to access. It is quick to register hours when you are on assignment, when you come home, or during the workday.
